I recently built a fun little application for BookAdvice.net. It is called Quotable Books.
Quotable Books helps you find new and interesting books by displaying random quotes. If a book is quotable, chances are it’s a good read.
Users can submit their favorite passages from books they enjoyed, and they will be added to a queue for potential approval. Once approved, the quotations will enter the pool of quotes that are randomly displayed. As new quotes are approved, they are automatically posted to the Quotable Books Twitter account.
It’s a neat little mini site in a similar vein to Quotes on Design and LyricSift. I had a lot of fun putting it together, over the three weeks or so that I coded it up with CodeIgniter, and I’ve found myself submitting new quotes as I read, or when I remember old favorites.
If you’re an avid reader, go and check it out. Feel free to submit quotes for approval, too. I’ve already stacked the deck with a good many fantasy quotes from authors like J. R. R. Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, J. K. Rowling, and Robert Jordan.
